Yesterday, April 28th 2017, was the Champlain College Senior show, and boy was it exciting! Office Mayhem has entered Gold Master status, and we are officially finished with it for the purposes of our education. We do plan on continuing work on Office Mayhem outside of school, perhaps incorporating, and maybe even land a publishing deal! We actually do have a few possible publishing offers, but for now, we just need to focus on the Senior Show. This is an extremely exciting time for everyone on the team!
The Champlain College Senior Show is an event held every year to showcase and celebrate the games created by the seniors. Each team shows a reel for their game, and a reel for individual team members, followed by a meet-and-greet in the gallery where the games are set up to be played. Our reel can be found here!
…Although, the real purpose of the Senior Show is the recruiters, and everyone knows it. About 40 percent of the audience for the senior show is made up of recruiters for development studios all over the country – and recruiters from Ubisoft, Montreal. Dozens of studios sent representatives, including (as I just mentioned) Ubisoft Montreal, Sony’s studios in Bend, Oregon, Giant Fox, Disruptor Beam, and more. After the show, the gallery opens exclusively for recruiters to mingle with the developers. They send a list to the head of the Game Studio department, and she sets up interviews the following day with the students they requested. It is a nerve-wracking time, and not a huge number of people will end up with interviews.
I’m proud to say that I did get an interview… with Ubisoft Montreal. I’m extremely excited, and the interview went pretty well, I think. Who knows what will come of it, but just having the opportunity is amazing, and I’m flattered that I was one of the few they picked.
Now, all that’s left is to see what the future holds!
